Sunday Morning Education Hour
Sundays from 9:15am-10:15am in the Fellowship Hall
You are invited to attend any of these classes during our Education Hour, from 9:15-10:15 am:
- Betty’s Bednarz’s Scripture Class meets in the classroom off of the Fellowship Hall;
- Multi-Generational Bible Study (Youth Room): During the month of January, we will be studying what it means to follow as a Christian.
How are we called to follow in the Bible, and how do we do this with joy in our hearts? Join us as we seek to discover this together.
- Where is God when evil seems to be winning? How do we respond when terrorists strike?
This week, I was taken aback by the senseless violence in Paris, France. The attack on the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was an example of evil.
For some, it creates an emotional response that wants to do something to get back at or punish those involved. Others might shrug their shoulders and say, “what can we do?”
It is precisely that question that we will ask and attempt to answer. How do we respond to things of this nature as Christians?
Please join me as we dive into this headline and gain strength from God’s Word in response to evil deeds. Pastor Meyer 9:15am this Sunday in the Fellowship Hall.
All kids 3-years-old through grade 5 are invited to join us for fun and interactive Sunday School Programs!
Earn coins to spend in the store by coming to Sunday School, bringing your Bible, bringing a friend, having a birthday & your baptismal birthday! Each week we will have a storyteller, crafts and music.
Time for a progress report on our trek.
- Just finished the Song of Solomon.
- We have really read through page 1,078 of The Lutheran Study Bible.
- Not only did we read and see the Word, but we listened and heard the Word at the same time, courtesy of our little special discs.
- Pretty neat that!
But now it is time to strike our tents and shake the dust from our sandals and move on – to the canonical prophets.
- Every Sunday we pray ‘and I believe in the Holy Spirit . . . who spoke by the prophets.’
- Who were they?
- What did they say?
- Who were they talking to?
- Why? Where? When?
The books of the biblical prophets are among the most provocative ever written, and yet they are by no means easy reading. Even the voracious Luther once complained that in perusing these books we are compelled to jump from topic to topic until we can scarcely endure it! The period 750 to 450 BC is almost addictive. There is a cluster of some 300 years that intrigues the reader with its “prophet speak.” Isaiah is the first prophet on the list. (Did you know that some scholars speak of a 2nd Isaiah and even a 3rd Isaiah? Now how does that happen?)
The Scripture Class meets at 9:15 am in class Room B in the Fellowship Hall. There is a Bible waiting for you. Join us for coffee and snacks. Questions? Call Betty Bednarz 512-288-2370.
