Pastor Paul Meyer
I have been at Mt. Olive for a vast majority of my ministry. It has been a pleasure to serve with such a great group of folks. I am a pastor because it fulfills my needs to serve the Lord and others. I’m convinced we are all called to give of ourselves in one way or another.
I sincerely hope you will consider joining us for worship and service as we influence the lives of those around us with the message of Jesus.
Incidentally, I’ve been blessed with a wonderful wife, three great sons and three equally great daughter-in-laws and four grandchildren. Yep family is important. Please check out the Mt. Olive family!
Director of Christian Education (DCE) – Youth & Outreach
I was raised in Houston where I grew up playing sports (baseball & soccer)! I graduated from Concordia University Texas with a double major (Business & Religious Education). College was a great experience where I continued to grow into my faith while playing baseball, making friends, and going on adventures in Austin!
Upon graduation, I moved back to the Houston-area to serve at CrossPoint in Katy as the Sports Guy. It is here that I truly developed a love for meeting people where they are at and loving them in ways that pointed them to Jesus. I am very excited to get to cultivate friendships with the families of Mt. Olive as well as our Dripping Springs/Southwest Austin community!
I’m newly married to Andrea who has spent the last 15 years in Katy and is currently attending Texas State University to pursue a Math-Teaching degree. We are a young family with a 7-1/2-year-old, Connor. He is currently in the 1st grade and is such a fun-loving kid who is really into all things Pokémon.
I’m a huge fan of the Houston Astros, an avid home-barista who will never turn down a good cup of coffee, a lover of good BBQ, and I’m all about Tacos morning, noon, & night. I also enjoy traveling and doing fun things with my family. I have the goal of completing in an Ironman Race before I’m 30.
My name is Penny Cedel but I like to go by Miss Penny. I am super excited to be serving at Mt Olive as a deaconess intern during this upcoming year.
I am an RN with a healthcare business degree, and have worked in many different areas as we moved 18+ times around the world with my husband’s military career. It has been exciting to see how God has had me serving in all the different places we lived… from hospice development, teaching nursing, office management, volunteer coordination, to developing programs for caregivers in need of respite.
I have just completed two years of schooling at Valparaiso University through the Lutheran Deaconess Association and recently joined the Mt Olive staff for my internship.
As a deaconess we take the gifts, talents and skills we have and use all these tools to go out and serve others in need— both within the formal church body and outside of it.
I invite you to come visit me and we can explore together how and where God is leading you to serve!
I love Jesus and I love children. That is really why I am here at Mt. Olive as the Preschool Director. Ever since I was a child I watched my mother oooh and ahhh over babies—in the grocery store, at church, in our family. She has the baby “mojo”. She loves babies and babies love her. They recognize a loving, kindred spirit and respond to it. I like to think I have the same “mojo” with young children. I love to talk to young children, to answer their questions, to hear what they have to say, to sing and play and be silly with them.
My faith in Jesus as my Savior is the foundation of my life. Being able to share the love of Jesus with young children through Bible stories and songs and conversations brings me tremendous joy. I believe that children have an understanding of God’s love for them because they know the love they share with their parents and family members. At Mt. Olive Preschool our foremost goal is to teach children that God loves them no matter what, every day, all the time. Everything else—kindness, forgiveness, thankfulness, helpfulness, obedience, doing one’s best, flows from that.
I have worked in education in one form or another my entire adult life. I attended the University of Texas at Austin for my undergraduate degree and earned my Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas State University which is now named Texas State University. My husband and I have 2 sons who attend school in Dripping Springs. We enjoy cooking, gardening, road trips, and hanging out in the back yard with our 2 dopey dogs, Scooter and Ollie.
Director of Music
“God works in mysterious and surprising ways—and that is so true with me. Leading the body of Christ in worship was not something I had planned, but God sure did, and His calling was unmistakable. What an honor and a privilege it is to connect people to God as they experience Him through music and worship!”
Karen has been leading contemporary worship at Mt. Olive since 2011, and has been a member of the Mt. Olive Praise Team since 2006. Her love of music started with violin lessons as a child, which evolved into a passion for singing and playing guitar. As an adult, she ventured into other disciplines, which resulted in a rather varied background in education, work experience, and volunteer activities. She holds an MS in Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BS in Geology from Stephen F. Austin University.
She loves expressing her faith through songwriting, and has compiled a collection of her original contemporary Christian songs on her CD “Moved By Faith”. She also enjoys DIY projects, travel, photography and family time. She and her husband have two sons and four trouble-making goats.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
I am so happy to be a part of the Mt. Olive family! I have found it to be a genuine, loving community and I’m proud to be a part of all the ministries happening here! We are reaching out, sharing Jesus and keeping the faith alive!
I grew up in San Marcos, then went off to college in Fort Worth where I graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) with a B.S. in Psychology.
I came back to Austin in 2009 with my husband. We have two beautiful daughters and enjoy all Austin has to offer.
I was very active in my Lutheran church growing up, attending VBS, youth camps, national gatherings and mission trips. I also worked one summer as the Youth Director during college. I now enjoy being an active member as an adult with my own family and watching my girls grow in their Christian faith.
The more we go, the more we love it. That is building faith and community!
Come, and see for yourself what Mt. Olive is all about!
