Adult Bible Class
God can seem distant when dreams fade, people die, or careers fail. It may feel like He slammed the door in your face and walked out for good.
No one knows the feeling of abandonment more than Ruth and Naomi. Their story begins with the worst—death, famine, and poverty. And God appeared to remain silent. Yet the book of Ruth doesn’t end with despair. The story brims with hope because God works on behalf of the two widows in ways they least expect.
In this 7-part series we will see how God moves behind the scenes in our lives and that of Ruth. This book teaches us about God’s faithfulness, love, and providence. (Jump in any time!)
Adult Scripture Class
The Scripture Class is starting a new course; i.e., Pompeii: Daily Life in an Ancient Roman City.
As Christians we have absorbed a lot of information about that first century AD. We have “walked” with Jesus and his followers on more than a few journeys—but not in Pompeii.
So why Pompeii? It provides historical context for the urban development, lives, and activities for the first century AD. The facts of daily life are available to us at Pompeii as they are nowhere else in the ancient Mediterranean world.
How did the elite live? Why does the little slave girl sleep on the floor outside the bedroom door of her mistress? Context provides a “pause” button in the time loop. The professor is Steven L. Tuck, Ph.D. He is Associate Professor of Classics and Art of Miami University—where he was named a University Distinguished Scholar and twice Outstanding Professor.
Join us for musing and muffins in Classroom B of the Fellowship Hall.
