Holy Communion Frequency
Our two elders, Tom Cedel and Brian Egger, along with our student Pastor/DCE Jason Wallingsford and Pastor Meyer have been discussing the possibility of celebrating Holy Communion every Sunday at both the 8:00am and the 10:30am worship services.
The frequency of Holy Communion in the Lutheran Church has gone from once a quarter, many years ago, to once a month and then once every other week or every other worship service. There is no one correct way to determine how often communion should be offered. It is up to the local congregation.
After the discussions of the topic by the Elders, Jason, and Pastor, our suggestion is that we have a test period of 6 months during which communion will be celebrated in both worship services each Sunday. After the 6 months is up, the Elders, Jason and Pastor will be in discussion with the Governance Board (as well as gather input from the congregation) to determine how Mt. Olive moves forward in the celebration of Holy Communion.
Our beginning date for the 6-month period will be the first Sunday of the church year, December 1.
(We will continue to celebrate Holy Communion on the fifth Sunday of any given month).
