Outreach

One of Mt. Olive’s most important programs is our efforts to share God’s love with those around us through service, example, and charity. We have both local and global programs, helping our central Texas neighbors and reaching out to share Jesus with our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.

The Central American Lutheran Mission Society (CALMS) helps Mt. Olive facilitate trips to Guatemala. Mt. Olive is working in the mountains of southeast Guatemala and has made seven separate trips to Capucalito and La Union in the last four years.

We are very proud of our service to our brothers and sisters in Guatemala and, hand-in-hand with them, have been able to accomplish the following:

  • Provided new wheelchairs to two brothers with neuro-muscular problems
  • Took family portraits and gave framed 8×10 pictures to more than 80 families
  • Sponsored scholarships to students to continue their higher education
  • Planned, funded and built a regional medical clinic that serves about a dozen different mountain villages around Capucalito
  • Helped fund and build the first specifically built classroom for special needs children in rural Guatemala
  • Continued efforts to educate special education teachers and parents for years to come with help from Concordia University, Austin
  • Set-up and supplied laptop computers for a lab in Capucalito’s middle school
  • Continued to provide computer science education
  • Gave needed school supplies to the elementary in Capucalito
  • Ran a clinic providing much needed near and far distance eye glasses
  • Gave Spanish language Bibles to every household in Capucalito and several churches in La Union
  • Ran VBS type programs for the kids of the village
  • Gave our members the chance of a lifetime to share the word and love of Jesus with our extended church family in Guatemala
