Dear Members of Mt. Olive Church and Preschool,
I want to keep you apprised of the current activities around the expansion of your Youth and Preschool Programs.
The Great Commission: Matthew 28:19
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
As you may know, we have been working on plans to extend the reach and impact of our youth and preschool programs as one response to the Great Commission. With the hiring of our new DCE, Jason Wallingsford, and the year-by-year waiting list of children to enter our preschool program it is an ideal time to examine the expansion of both.
Youth Program Expansion
Jason has been at work on a vision for the Youth Program. His plan will focus on a theme of connectivity; Connected to Jesus, Connected to Each Other and Connected to Community.
To accomplish this idea of connectivity he will utilize three different types of events.
- Reach Events – Fun events designed to strengthen and grow relationships.
- Grow Events – Intentional time spent in studying the Word of God.
- Serve Events – Activities planned around coming together and serving the community.
Additionally, Jason will be drawing on the resources of the Congregation to assist him with finalizing his vision. He is forming Dream Teams to help live out the unified vision for the youth ministry. There will be a Dream Team for the children as well as one for the middle school and high school youth. Members of each of the Dream Teams will provide ideas, input and support towards completion of the final plan.
Once the Youth Program vision is complete we will be evaluating the facilities/space needed to accomplish the plan.
In preparation for a potential recommendation to expand the Mt. Olive Preschool, we have implemented a Preschool Self-Study Committee.
Committee members include:
- Jeff Folgate – Committee Chair
- Dr. Gale Grotjan – Consultant
- Dr. Gert Keiper – Consultant
- Karen Keswick – Preschool Director
- Gary Weuve – Congregational Chair
The first goal of the study is to assure the existing preschool structure will be a viable, ongoing mission activity for Mt. Olive Church. The committee is looking to answer three questions:
- What should the preschool continue to do?
- What should the preschool stop doing?
- What should the preschool start doing?
The committee has been meeting weekly and is reviewing several items including:
- Enrollment Trends
- Financial History
- Organizational Chart
- Student/Teacher Ratios
- Mt. Olive vs. National Lutheran School Association (NLSA) vs. State of Texas
- Past Parent and Teacher Satisfaction Surveys
- Review of Waiting List
We also have a current survey out to the preschool parents asking for information on why they chose Mt. Olive Preschool, a ranked preference of the services currently provided and asking what services they would like to see us begin to offer.
Once we have the completed self-study from the consultants it will then be one piece of information used to help the Governance Board decide whether to recommend to the Congregation an expansion of the preschool.
Our goal is to have the report completed by August 31, 2017.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know. (email: email@example.com)
I may not have an immediate answer for you but will do my best to track down a response. Also, if you have ideas, thoughts or suggestions I would like to hear from you. More than anything else, please keep those at work on these important initiatives in your prayers.
There is a lot of great work happening behind the scenes on behalf of Mt. Olive Church and Preschool. Not only on the Youth and Preschool Programs but in many other areas as well. We as a body of believers have much to be thankful for.
In Jesus Name,
